The New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals are the only AFC teams assured of playoff fun at the moment. Some team has to win take the AFC South. The other three spots are up for grabs. The New York Jets, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and Pittsburgh Steelers are in the running for those spots. The Chiefs are the hottest with eight consecutive wins. The Steelers might have the most explosive offense in the league. The Jets are just getting the job done. The Broncos are struggling the most of the four but they have that one-game lead. The next two weeks should be a blast in the AFC. If I had to guess now the Jets will be the team that will be left out of the playoff fun.
The NFC doesn't have as much mystery. Four of the six playoff spots are taken. The Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, and Seattle Seahawks are the four teams that have clinched. The Minnesota Vikings are as close to clinching as a team that hasn't clinched can be. The only scenario that boots the Vikings is the one that has them losing their remaining two games, the Seahawks losing their remaining two games, and the Atlanta Falcons winning their remaining two games. If they defeat the New York Giants on Sunday, the Vikings' Week 17 date with the Green Bay Packers will be for the NFC North title. That's the goal. Like the AFC South, the NFC East leaves a lot to be desired. At least in terms of wins. The East race is the race that holds intrigue in the NFC. Only the Redskins have have a shot at taking the division with a winning record and they have to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys to do so. That's a challenge as all of the division foes have simply beaten up on each other all season. A bigger challenge for the Redskins is that both of their remaining games are on the road. They have struggled all season away from Washington. If they can finally find a way of winning on the road they should keep their division lead.
Two more weeks.
