Only one undefeated team left. The Carolina Panthers. The 1972 Miami Dolphins have to be getting nervous. Although the 2007 New England Patriots probably took the sting out some team equaling their perfect regular season. It's adding a perfect postseason to a perfect regular season that's key now. The Panthers remaining schedule looks like this:
@ New Orleans Saints
Atlanta Falcons
@ New York Giants
@ Atlanta Falcons
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
That's not a tough road. All but the Giants are division foes. Those are always unpredictable no matter the respective. The Falcons are the only team on the Panthers remaining schedule with a winning record. After a fast start the Falcons are fading fast. They may not even have a winning record in two weeks. The Giants can be tough and they should be playing for a division title. The possibility of a 16-0 season for the Panthers has to be considered much better than decent. Unless they rest players in the final game or two.
There are now eight teams in the AFC with a winning record. That's twice as many as there were one week ago. There are even two in the AFC South. A division that has been south of .500 all season. There are six teams in the NFC with a winning record.
The Minnesota Vikings have a one game lead over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North. That's a good thing. What's not a good thing for the Vikings is the coming two games. They host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Then they have three days to prepare for a trip to play the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night. Three days is not enough time to recover for any NFL game. Playing physical teams like the Seahawks and Cardinals with only three days in between is simply brutal. Hopefully the Vikings can at least split those games.
It's hard to believe that the 3-8 Tony Romo-less Dallas Cowboys are still very much alive for the division title.
It's going to be a great five weeks of football fun.
