Week six is still early but it's far enough into the season to get a good idea as to how teams and division races are going to shape up. Having undefeated teams at this point might not shake up the 1972 Miami Dolphins too much but having five of them might. The New England Patriots might face the stiffest challenge to their undefeated ways this week in the very surprising New York Jets. The game will be for the division lead through seven weeks. The Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers each have the week off before they face each other in week 8. That game could be the game of the first half of the season. The Broncos have been winning their games with defense. Peyton Manning and the offense are just doing barely enough to not lose games. They'll probably have to do much more than that in two weeks. The Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers seem to be toying with teams. The Carolina Panthers faced and passed their first real challenge of the season in their win over the Seattle Seahawks this past Sunday. They face another tough test this week against the unpredictable Philadelphia Eagles. The Cincinnati Bengals also have this week off so three of the five undefeated teams will remain undefeated through seven weeks.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about this season so far is that only five teams in each conference have a winning record. The AFC South and NFC East are each led by teams playing at a .500 clip. That's pretty average stuff. The best thing about the five teams with a winning record in the NFC is that the Minnesota Vikings are one of them.
The most surprising record through six weeks has to be the Seahawks record of 2-4. For me, the most surprising record on the positive side of things is the 4-1 record of the Jets. This team look like a drama-filled mess during the summer. I've said it before and I say it again, if I had a vote for Coach of the Year it would go to Todd Bowles.
So there it is, the NFL through six weeks.
