Throwback Thursday: Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor

Former Minnesota Vikings receiving dynamo Randy Moss was inducted into the team's Ring of Honor on Monday. There was really no surprise in the honor. Moss could've walked into the prestigious group the moment he stepped away from the game. He was one of the best to ever play. Moss is the 22nd member of the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor.

Ahmad Rashad will bring the total to 23 when he's honored later this season.

Instead of focusing on the great careers of those just inducted it's a natural reaction to focus on
"who's next." Tackle Grady Alderman tops the list of early Vikings that should be considered. He and Mick Tingelhoff led the offensive line through the first decade-plus of the team's existence. Steve Jordan was a terrific tight end and team leader in the 1980s. Cornerback Carl Lee should get some consideration. Running back Robert Smith is probably the leading 1990s contender. Then there's several more recently retired players that might trump most, if not all, of the deserving "old guys."

Kevin Williams
Steve Hutchinson
Antoine Winfield
Matt Birk

While on the subject of past Viking greats, six former Vikings players have had their jersey number retired.
