An NFL roster is a very fluid thing. Just when the roster feels somewhat set for training camp, the Minnesota Vikings tweak it a bit. A signing that many expected/hoped would happen much earlier in the offseason finally happened last week. The Vikings brought back guard Dalton Risner. The starter at left guard for most of last season returned to the roster. The coaches had penciled in Blake Brandel as the starter between Christian Darrisaw and Garrett Bradbury. Now, it looks like Brandel might have some competition. If nothing else, the depth on the offensive line got a whole lot better. That’s a very good thing.
At his press conference on the first day of mandatory minicamp, head coach Kevin O’Connell revealed that receiver N’Keal Harry is working as a tight end. At 6’4” and 225 lbs, Harry is a big receiver. In fact, he’s the Vikings biggest receiver. At 6’4” and 225 lbs, he’s on the smaller side for tight ends. He is a solid blocker and he has the receiving traits that once got him selected in the first round. It’s an intriguing transition for Harry. If the Vikings keep him with his new position group, with T.J. Hockenson rehabbing the ACL injury suffered against the targeting, cheap-shotting Detroit Lions, the Vikings have eight tight ends on the roster.
Until the next roster tweak, here’s another look at the Vikings roster.
