Favorite Offseason Additions: AFC West

Offseason workouts are winding down across the NFL. The “long” wait for the start of training camp is about to begin. That makes this a fine time to take a look at some of my favorite offseason additions for each of the league’s 32 teams. Next up is the AFC West.

Favorite Offseason Additions: AFC West

Denver Broncos
Troy Franklin, WR, fourth-round pick

With the national attention and Heisman consideration paid to quarterback Bo Nix, you’d think Troy Franklin would’ve gotten more notice. Every time I tuned into an Oregon game it seemed Franklin was making a big play. It felt like he was the best player, certainly best receiver, no one was talking about. He even fell in the draft. At various times, some talking heads had him on the cusp of the first round. He was always, at worst, a second-round pick to me. The Broncos lucked into him in the fourth round. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s soon the top pass-catcher in Denver.

Kansas City Chiefs
Hunter Nourzad, C, fifth-round pick

From Trent McDuffie to George Karlaftis to Nick Bolton, the Chiefs are another team that often seems to draft some of my favorite players. This year, I wasn’t much of a fan of their picks. I know that they have some terrific plans for first-round pick Xavier Worthy. They must, seeing as they traded up a bit to insure that they got him. I was never quite sold on the speedy, little receiver. I did and do like Hunter Nourzad. With Creed Humphrey firmly entrenched at center and Joe Thuney and Trey Smith playing terrific at guard, I’m not sure where Nourzad fits in the team’s plans. The Vikings might soon be in need for a center. Maybe they can wrestle him away from the Chiefs.

Las Vegas Raiders
Brock Bowers, TE, first-round pick

I’m not sure about the quarterbacks throwing the ball to him but Brock Bowers has the natural talent to make an immediate impact. He was one of the best pass-catchers and play-makers in the draft. The Raiders were lucky to land him with the 13th pick.

Los Angeles Chargers
J.K. Dobbins, RB, free agent

With Jim Harbaugh as the Chargers new coach, I liked that brother John Harbaugh gifted him a couple running backs to get things started. J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards moved from Baltimore to Los Angeles this offseason. Throughout his coaching career, Jim Harbaugh has shown a fondness for a physical run game. With Justin Herbert as his quarterback I doubt that the Chargers will be running as much as many think. If Dobbins left his injury past in Baltimore, he has the talent to have a great future in Los Angeles.
