Some Cal Stuff

The California Golden Bears kickoff their 2015 season at home against the Grambling State Tigers this afternoon. This is the first ever meeting between the two schools. The FCS Tigers are 43 1/2-point underdogs. Cal head coach Sonny Dykes should be a little familiar with Grambling. He was head coach at Louisiana Tech from 2010-12. The two Louisiana schools are about an eight minute drive apart. With Grambling's terrific football history this is an interesting matchup for the Golden Bears. The Tigers are on the rise in the Southwestern Athletic Conference but they probably don't have the depth or talent to hang with Cal for four quarters.

Cal has won 11 of their last 13 home openers.

Here's a look at Cal's projected starting lineup to start the season:

Offense

WR-X  Trevor Davis
WR-H  Bryce Treggs
LT        Steven Moore
LG       Chris Borrayo
C          Dominic Granado Jr.
RG       Jordan Rigsbee
RT        Brian Farley
WR-Y  Stephen Anderson
WR-Z   Kenny Lawler
RB        Daniel Lasco

-Cal will have constant stream of receivers running onto the field

Defense

DE    Kyle Kragen
DT    James Looney
DT    Mustafa Jalil
DE    DeVante Wilson
LB    Jake Kearney
LB    Hardy Nickerson
LB    Jalen Jefferson
CB    Darius Allensworth
CB    Darius White Jr.
  S     Stefan McClure
  S     Damariary Drew

-this unit has to improve

Special Teams

P      Cole Leininger
K      Noah Beito
PR    Kanawai Noa
KR   Trevor Davis

Jared Goff, Daniel Lasco, Jordan Rigsbee, Hardy Nickerson, and Stefan McClure were named Cal's 2015 team captains.

Some in the media have tapped Cal as a potential surprise team this year. They received a single vote in the 2015 AP Top 25 preseason poll. I hear that person no longer has a vote. The Bears offense can score with anyone. If the defense can make some stops after making just about no stops for two years Cal might do much more than simply surprise.

Go Bears!
