Favorite Free Agent “Signings”

Free Agency hasn’t officially started. That hasn’t stopped teams from coming to agreement on deals with new players. None of the deals are officially official until this afternoon. Here are some of my favorite “signings.”

Minnesota Vikings: Dalvin Tomlinson, DT
-A Vikings signing has to be among my favorites. Dalvin Tomlinson and Michael Pierce should be a fun pair in the middle of the Vikings defensive line. Some might see two nose tackles. I see a couple big men with the size, power, and agility to make life rough for running backs and quarterbacks.

New England Patriots: Jonnu Smith, TE
-The Patriots did about a third of the “signings” on an active first day of legal tampering. I liked their first “signing” the best. The Patriots like tight ends and they “signed” a real good one in Jonnu Smith. He may now finally get the attention that he’s long deserved.

Kansas City Chiefs: Joe Thuney, OG
-The Chiefs lost the Super Bowl because their offensive line was dismantled in the weeks before it. The line has to be rebuilt and they start the rebuild with the best offensive lineman available.

Los Angeles Chargers: Corey Linsley, C
-Another team that has to rebuild their offensive line added a cornerstone player. Corey Linsley joins Brian Bulaga as former Green Bay Packers offensive linemen to find a warmer home in Los Angeles.

New York Jets: Carl Lawson, Edge
-I had Carl Lawson as the best pass rusher of free agency. The Vikings reportedly liked him too but couldn’t afford the bidding.

Baltimore Ravens: Kevin Zeitler, OG
-This is a street free agent signing so it’s a pre-legal tampering signing. I was hoping that Kevin Zeitler would find his way to Minnesota.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Marvin Jones, WR
-I liked a few of the Jacksonville “signings.” Roy Robertson-Harris, Shaquill Griffin, Rayshawn Jenkins. Other than a few games against the Vikings, I’ve been a Marvin Jones fan since his freshman year at Cal.

Cleveland Browns: John Johnson, S
-John Johnson is another player that I hoped would find his way to Minnesota.

Washington Football Team: William Jackson, CB
-William Jackson is a strong addition to a defense that’s fast becoming one of the most talented in the league.

San Francisco 49ers: Alex Mack, C
Like Marvin Jones, Alex Mack is one of my Cal favorites.

Arizona Cardinals: J.J. Watt, DL
-This is another pre-legal tampering signing. J.J. Watt still has the ability to make a couple impact plays each game. He’s the second Houston Texans star in as many years to find a new home in Arizona.

The Kevin Zeitler and J.J. Watt signings are already official. The rest become official at 4pm Eastern today.
