Draft Pick Signings

In recent years most teams signed their draft picks with a sense of urgency. The Minnesota Vikings made it a priority to get their new players signed by the first rookie mini-camp. That camp was held a week after the draft. This hasn't been a normal offseason. Through the first week of June, signing draft picks haven't been a priority for most teams.

First Round Signings:

1.   Cincinnati Bengals-Joe Burrow, QB, LSU
2.   Washington Redskins-Chase Young, Edge, Ohio State
3.   Detroit Lions-Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State
4.   New York Giants-Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia

32. Kansas City Chiefs-D'Andre Swift, RB, Georgia

Two. Only two first round picks have signed their initial NFL contract. It's been only two since May 11. This time last year, 21 first round picks had signed.

The rest (as of 6/6):
2nd round: 6/32
3rd round: 7/42
4th round: 9/40
5th round: 9/33
6th round: 16/35
7th round: 8/41

The large number of sixth-round signings is a curiosity.

Only 55 of the 255 draft picks have signed their first NFL contract. That's about 21.6%. It feels like 2010.

The Minnesota Vikings drafted an NFL record 15 players in a seven-round draft. They have yet to sign any of those 15 players. They aren't alone. The following teams have yet to sign a draft pick.

Arizona Cardinals
Atlanta Falcons
Chicago Bears
Cincinnati Bengals
Dallas Cowboys
Denver Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs
Las Vegas Raiders
Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Rams
Miami Dolphins
New Orleans Saints
Pittsburgh Steelers
San Francisco 49ers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Washington Redskins

The New England Patriots are the only team to sign every member of their draft class. The other 15 teams are somewhere in between. Most of those teams have only signed a pick or two. It's been a very different offseaon. Hopefully things will get to something close to normal soon.
