We are now in Draft Month. April 26th-28th. In Dallas. The time in between will pass in a blink. Actually, it will drag on and on mostly due to exercises like this one. A Minnesota Vikings mock draft. The Vikings have 8 picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.
1. (30)
2. (62)
3. (94)
5. (167)
6. (204)
6. (213)
6. (218)
7. (225)
There's a hole in the middle of the Vikings draft. Their fourth round pick belongs to the Philadelphia Eagles for the final payment on what turned out to be a two-year lease on Sam Bradford. It's really no stretch to think that Vikings general manager Rick Spielman would like to fill that fourth-round hole. The best way to do that would be with a trade of their first-round pick. They could swap picks with a team picking early in the second round and gain a fourth-round pick. But I don't dabble in draft trade projections. That's even more silly than projecting a team's entire draft.
The Vikings may or may not have the following draft day needs. It depends on who you ask.
Offensive line
Defensive line depth
Tight end depth
Cornerback depth
Linebacker depth
Here's a stab at all eight of the Minnesota Vikings draft picks
1. Isaiah Wynn, G, Georgia
2. Nathan Shepherd, DT, Fort Hays State
3. Ian Thomas, TE, Indiana
5. Holton Hill, CB, Texas
6. Alex Cappa, T, Humboldt State
6. Nyheim Hines, RB, North Carolina State
6. Daniel Carlson, K, Auburn
7. Ade Aruna, DE, Tulane
Or something like that. I was hoping to fit Central Florida linebacker Shaquem Griffen and Washington receiver Dante Pettis in there somewhere. Maybe if the Vikings drop out of the first round to add a fourth-rounder they can select Griffen or Pettis in the third and perhaps select Miami TE Chris Herndon in the fourth. Who knows? It's all a guess at this point. I'd say that most of the above picks are pretty hopeful as each is probably projected by many to be selected at least a round before I have the Vikings lucking into them.
24 more days.
