More Groundbreaking

The Minnesota Vikings spent their first off day of training camp yesterday by celebrating the official groundbreaking of their new practice facility and team headquarters in Eagan. The Vikings have partnered with Twin Cities Orthopedics (TCO) on this project and their new home will be named Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center and TCO Stadium. The facilities are slated to open in March 2018. With their spectacular new US Bank Stadium set to open this month and this new state-of-the-art facility the Vikings will surely be the envy of the other 31 teams in the NFL. As they should be.

The approximate 40-acre Vikings campus is expected to include.

-New administrative offices for Vikings staff
-Outdoor stadium with an anticipated capacity of 6,000 (expandable)
-Five outdoor practice fields-four grass, one synthetic
-Outdoor training areas, including a sand-pit and inclined surfaces
-Indoor practice facility with a 100-yard synthetic surface field
-Team auditorium and player position meeting rooms
-Media center/press facilities
-Expanded locker room, weight room, and equipment facilities
-Cardiovascular and specialized speed rooms
-Hydrotherapy room post-workout recovery rooms

Beautiful!

Many talking heads have speculated that this new training facility could spell the end of the Vikings over 50-year training camp relationship with Mankato State University. General manager Rick Spielman said that there have been no discussions about moving training camp and a decision will be made later. The guess here is that the Mankato days are coming to an end. That would be a shame as training camp at Mankato has been a terrific tradition. The Vikings are one of the few teams that still travel to camp. But as Spielman said, that decision is for another day. This day was about another Vikings groundbreaking and a great Vikings future in Minnesota.
