NFL Top 100: 20-11

Here's this week's reveal of the NFL's Top 100. Players ranked 20-11. Oooh, top-20.

20. Richard Sherman, CB, Seattle Seahawks
19. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Houston Texans
18. Patrick Peterson, CB, Arizona Cardinals
17. Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks
16. A.J. Green, WR. Cincinnati Bengals
15. Von Miller, LB, Denver Broncos
14. Aaron Donald, DT, Los Angeles Rams
13. Khalil Mack, LB, Oakland Raiders
12. Carson Palmer, QB, Oakland Raiders
11. Josh Norman, CB, Washington Redskins

That's a fine group of football players. As one would expect from the top-20 players in the player.

The current consensus of the players indicate that Richard Sherman, Patrick Peterson, and Josh Norman have passed Darrelle Revis (#24-uniform number and ranking) as the top corner in the league. If for no other reason, the Sherman, Peterson, and Norman trio have the edge simply due to age. All four are outstanding.

DeAndre Hopkins has been a very good receiver since his 2013 rookie season. He bulled his way into the receiving elite with his dynamite 2015 season. He'll be among the receiving elite for a long time if Brock Osweiler is anything close to the quarterback that the Houston Texans are paying him to be.

Russell Wilson. His reaction to an errant snap in last year's playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings is all you really need to see to justify his ranking here. That play was the only real real breakdown of the game by the Vikings defense and it was the main reason for the Seahawks surviving to play another game. There's probably not another quarterback in the game today that makes that play and it's a play that I've seen far too often.

A.J. Green is so smooth. So fun to watch. It'll be interesting to see how Green plays this season after the free agency defection of solid complimentary pass catchers Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu. Rookie Tyler Boyd should help offset those losses.

Von Miller and Aaron Donald could've/should've been found among the top-10 players. Both have a remarkable ability to dismantle offenses.

There was a time about a decade ago that Carson Palmer was nudging his way into NFL's best quarterbacks conversation. Injuries have really taken a toll on his play since and dampened that conversation. He's fought his way back to the top. He was in the MVP conversation for much of the 2015 season. He just has to sustain that level of play into the playoffs.

It'll be interesting to see how Josh Norman performs with the Washington Redskins. He was outstanding with the Carolina Panthers last season. He had so many terrific players around him on the Panthers defense that he only had to concern himself with the receiver nearest him. And he didn't have to concern himself with that receiver for long.

Arizona Cardinals "do-everything" defender Tyrann Mathieu has emerged as my favorite commentator on the player profiles. His compliments, and criticisms, often go beyond the surface variety. I could listen to his commentary on his peers all day.

Green Bay Packers defensive end Mike Daniels and Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee are also very good, and entertaining, with their comments.

Spoiler Alert:

The above reveal leaves the following players, in no particular order, among next week's top-10.

Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Cam Newton
Adrian Peterson
Julio Jones
Antonio Brown
Odell Beckham Jr.
Rob Gronkowski
J.J. Watt
Luke Kuechly

It sure looks like receiver has zipped past running back among the offensive elite. Not much of a surprise in today's pass-happy NFL.

Just for fun, here's the order that I think the top-10 will fall.

10. Julio Jones
  9. Odell Beckham Jr.
  8. Adrian Peterson
  7. Aaron Rodgers
  6. Rob Gronkowski
  5. Luke Kuechly
  4. Antonio Brown
  3. Tom Brady
  2. Cam Newton
  1. J.J. Watt
