This Top-15 Receivers kicks off a run of Top-15 lists to pass the long July days before the start of training camps. Here are the Flea Flicker Top-15 Receivers entering the 2016 NFL season.
15. Emmanuel Sanders, Denver Broncos
Sanders is too small. He has decent speed but isn't really a burner. Despite not looking the part, he just makes plays. They are often of the big play variety. I really like his game.
14. Doug Baldwin, Seattle Seahawks
Baldwin has bulled his way into the receiving elite. He was one of the best receivers in the league down the stretch last season. Certainly the most productive.
13. Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos
Thomas has the talent to be ranked much higher than this. He would be ranked much higher than this if he hadn't faded down the stretch last season. That was due more to the Broncos quarterback situation than Thomas' skills. It seems a little off to have two Broncos receivers on this letter with the current state of the quarterback position in Denver but Thomas and Sanders are one of the best receiving duos in the league. They make things a lot easier for whichever quarterback comes out of the training camp battle.
12. Alshon Jeffery, Chicago Bears
The Bears should have an interesting receiving duo with Jeffery and semi-rookie Kevin White. At times Jeffery seems unstoppable.
11. Brandon Marshall, New York Jets
With his size, positioning, and physicality, Marshall can still take over games.
10. Keenan Allen, San Diego Chargers
Allen was among the receiving elite before a lacerated kidney ended his 2015 season. I've enjoyed watching him play since he first stepped on the Cal campus.
9. Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers
Nelson lost his entire 2015 season to a knee injury. Otherwise, he's in the top 5 or 6. Having Aaron Rodgers toss him passes is a big help. A couple of years ago Vikings corner Xavier Rhodes said that Nelson was the most challenging receiver that he'd faced that year. This was a year in which he'd been challenged by the likes of Dez Bryant, A.J. Green, and Calvin Johnson.
8. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys
This is way too low. Bryant just has to stay healthy. If healthy, he's among the top 4.
7. Allen Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars
This might be a little high since Robinson is so young but I just love his game. He's only 22.
6. A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals
Green is so smooth. So smooth that he kind of lulls you to sleep then BANG! he does something incredible.
5. DeAndre Hopkins, Houston Texans
Hopkins exploded last season. He should be among the best receivers in the game for a long time if Brock Osweiler is anything close to the quarterback that he's paid to be.
4. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals
Most receiver rankings probably have Fitzgerald lower than this. As long as he's catching footballs he's high on my list. His pass catching should be a tutorial for any kid with a desire to be a receiver.
3. Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham is something of a puzzle for me. He's been the most spectacular receiver in the game since he stepped on the field just over a year ago. It feels like he's barely scratched the surface of his immense potential. Very scary. I wonder if he'll ever get there.
2. Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers
1. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons
No NFL receiver ranking is wrong with Julio Jones or Antonio Brown at the top of it. I simply prefer the physical manner in which Jones plays the position. Even though he probably hates concessions made for his size, Brown might be, pound-for-pound, the most dominant football player in the game. As a Minnesota Vikings fan my incredibly optimistic hope is that Stefon Diggs becomes a receiver a bit like Brown and Laquon Treadwell becomes a receiver a bit like Jones. The best of both worlds!
