NFL Top 100: 10-1

It's finally done. The NFL's Top 100 Players of 2016 is in the books. Here's the final reveal. Players ranked 10-1.

10. Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants
  9. Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots
  8. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons
  7. Luke Kuechly, Carolina Panthers
  6. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers
  5. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings
  4. Antonio Brown, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
  3. J.J. Watt, DE, Houston Texans
  2. Ton Brady, QB, New England Patriots
  1. Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

There it is.

The defense doesn't get enough respect. Even from the players themselves. Kuechly at #7 and Watt at #3 just feels low for both. Beyond that, Von Miller should have joined them in the Top-10. An argument could also be made for the inclusion of Aaron Donald and Josh Norman among the ten. Then, which players in the Top-10 get booted from it? That's the problem with picking apart a player ranking such as this. There's always about twenty players that deserve to be ranked in the top 10. That math will never work. Sometimes it's best to let it be. This list gets criticized more than most. Probably because it's revealed on television over ten weeks with each group of ten players being analyzed and dissected for a week. It's also criticized because it's voted on by the players. Heaven forbid the players be given a vote. This list is fun because the players vote on it and the presentation is fun because the players comment on their peers.

I expected the Top-10 to pop up in this order.

10. Julio Jones
  9. Odell Beckham Jr.
  8. Adrian Peterson
  7. Aaron Rodgers
  6. Rob Gronkowski
  5. Luke Kuechly
  4. Antonio Brown
  3. Tom Brady
  2. Cam Newton
  1. J.J. Watt

At least Peterson ranked higher than I expected. If the Vikings can get their offensive line in working order he could be higher than #5 next year. At the age of 31.

During Wednesday's reveal we were treated to the players that were ranked 110-101. Here are the players that just missed the cut.

110. Connor Barwin, DE, Philadelphia Eagles
109. Jamie Collins. LB, New England Patriots
108. Stephen Gostkowski, K, New England Patriots
107. Malcolm Jenkins, S, Philadelphia Eagles
106. Tyler Lockett, WR, Seattle Seahawks
105. Devin McCourty, S, New England Patriots
104. Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts
103. Amari Cooper, WR, Oakland Raiders
102. T.Y. Hilton, WR, Indianapolis Colts
101, Anthony Barr, LB, Minnesota Vikings

This is the last time that Barr is outside the Top-100.
