Here's a look at some of the NFL's underrated players at each position.
Quarterback
Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
Rivers isn't really underrated. He's considered by most to be one of the league's elite quarterbacks. Just a bit below the rest. Probably because he hasn't won a title.
Running back
Frank Gore, Indianapolis Colts
Gore isn't really underrated either. But, he's always been a little under the radar. Maybe it's because he played at a time when LaDanian Tomlinson and then Adrian Peterson shined so bright. Gore has quietly gained over 12,000 yards in his career.
Fullback
All of them
There are so few left. So few that all remaining fullbacks are underrated.
Receivers
Doug Baldwin, Seattle Seahawks
Allen Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars
Neither receiver is going to be underrated much longer.
Tight end
Delanie Walker, Tennessee Titans
Walker was hidden behind Vernon Davis for years. He's emerged with the Titans. Walker was outstanding last season.
Tackles
Donald Penn, Oakland Raiders
Mitchell Schwartz, Kansas City Chiefs
Penn didn't make the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He's been a solid starter, and often better than that, ever since. Schwartz is one of the best right tackles in the league.
Guards
Richie Incognito, Buffalo Bills
Geoff Schwartz, Detroit Lions
Perhaps the mess in Miami hurts him but Incognito is one of the league's better guards. Lines simply get better when he's a part of them. Another Schwartz. This Schwartz is on a new team each year. Maybe one of these years some team will be smart and offer this Schwartz brother a long-term contract.
Center
John Sullivan, Minnesota Vikings
This is assuming that Sullivan returns to his 2014 form after missing all of last season due to a back injury.
Defensive ends
Michael Bennett, Seattle Seahawks
Everson Griffen, Minnesota Vikings
I would guess that no tackle that has faced either considers Bennett or Griffen underrated. Neither player seems to get much attention from those that only look at stat sheets.
Defensive tackles
Linval Joseph, Minnesota Vikings
Damon Harrison, New York Giants
Before he was injured, Joseph was playing as well as any defensive tackle in the league last season. Harrison probably stopped being underrated as soon as he signed that big free agent contract with the Giants.
Linebackers
K.J. Wright, Seattle Seahwks
Brandon Marshall, Denver Broncos
Anthony Barr, Minnesota Vikings
Wright and Marshall probably get a little lost among so much defensive talent on their teams. This is probably the last year that Barr is on an underrated list. He should be a superstar if he can stay on the field. Injuries have been the only knock on his two years in the league.
Cornerbacks
Stephon Gilmore, Buffalo Bills
Desmond Trufant, Atlanta Falcons
Both are real close to being considered among the very best.
Safeties
Harrison Smith, Minnesota Vikings
Reshad Jones, Miami Dolphins
Both are starting to get some much-deserved attention.
