Justin Jefferson. Jordan Addison. Vikings fans are treated to arguably the best receiving duo in the league. In my opinion, there is no argument. They are the best duo. Both are outstanding route-runners. Both have outstanding hands. Despite their slight frames, both are excellent with contested catches. Jefferson has emerged as the face of the franchise and one of the faces of the entire league. His first five seasons have been historically elite. At only 25, he’s on a Hall of Fame path. Addison plays in the long shadow of Jefferson yet he isn’t overshadowed. Addison is a brilliant receiver for many of the same ways as Jefferson. He’s also different in a few ways. He’s a little quicker, a little more sudden in his movements. I never thought it would be possible but Jefferson and Addison are approaching Carter and Moss in the Vikings great receiver tradition.
The Vikings do have some receivers not named Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. With six touchdowns, Jalen Nailor had a bit of a breakout last season. He played well when Addison missed a couple of games to injury. He could be needed again if Addison misses games this season to a suspension. Nailor is in a contract year. He’ll probably be offered more by another team than the Vikings are able to afford. The likelihood of Nailor departing likely played a role in the Vikings selecting Tai Felton in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Felton has elite speed and explosion. Like Jefferson and Addison, he has a slight frame. Unlike Jefferson and Addison, Felton doesn’t deal with contact very well. The rookie must improve his play strength. If not for that little flaw to his game, Felton might’ve been selected in the first round. Despite being the receiver star for his college team, he was a core special teamer at Maryland. I would imagine that Felton will compete for one or both of the return roles.
Rondale Moore is an intriguing free agent addition. He’s coming off a torn ACL in training camp that wiped out his entire 2024 season. In only the second game of his NFL career, while with the Arizona Cardinals, Moore shredded the Vikings for more than 100 receiving yards and a long touchdown. If he comes to training camp healthy and stays healthy, he could have a unique role with the Vikings. Jet sweeps, bubble screens, he’s a threat to score every time he has the ball in his hands.
Tim Jones is another free agent addition. While he caught a few passes for the Jacksonville Jaguars, his main contributions came on special teams. I figured that his signing was mostly as a special teams replacement for Trent Sherfield Sr.
He still has to show that he’s healthy and can stay healthy but I like Rondale Moore as the fifth receiver. That would give the Vikings the following five-receiver depth chart:
Justin Jefferson
Jordan Addison
Jalen Nailor
Thai Felton
Rondale Moore
There isn’t much size in that group but there’s a lot of versatility. And quality. If the Vikings keep six receivers, the sixth receiver will have to be a significant special teams contributor. Probably as the team’s kick and punt returner. Undrafted free agents Silas Bolden, Myles Price, Dontae Fleming, and Robert Lewis were probably signed with that role in mind.
