Throwback Thursday: A Different Sort Of All-Time NFL Team

Still giddy from a weekend in Hall of Fame weekend in Canton, I can't help but think of an All-Time NFL team made up of the football legends that I saw. This is a very select team. I had to see each player around the museum or about town at some point during the weekend. I even met a couple of them.

Quarterback
Joe Namath

Joe Namath gets the nod simply because he had one of the humorous highlights of the weekend. As many fans awaited the arrival of the returning and new Hall of Famers for Friday's photo shoot there was some commotion along the drive. Apparently some madman in a car was trying to get through barricades that surrounded the area. Security came running, yelling to let the car through. Turns out Namath was the madman. For some reason he was driving himself to the proceedings as the rest of the Hall of Famers packed the three buses that followed him. It was an amusing, fun start to the weekend.

Fullback
Jim Brown

It's always a thrill to see Jim Brown.

Halfback
Lenny Moore

I've always wanted to get Lenny Moore on one of my All-Time teams. He's one of my favorite football players of that era and one of my favorites from a Colts teams filled with favorite players.

Receivers
Randy Moss
Cris Carter

The Vikings great receivers get the nod. It was a pleasure and an honor to be in Canton for both of their inductions.

Tight End
Ozzie Newsome

It was a coin toss between Ozzie Newsome and Kellen Winslow. Newsome won it

Tackles
Anthony Munoz
Jonathan Ogden

Both great tackles look like they could still play NFL games.

Guards
Jerry Kramer
John Hannah

I was in Canton to see Moss step into the Hall of Fame. Seeing Jerry Kramer get the honor that he deserved long ago was a great bonus. Randall McDaniel would've been the only player that could keep John Hannah off my time. Sadly, I didn't see McDaniel over the weekend.

Center
Dwight Stephenson

Dwight Stephenson was the best I've ever seen play the center position.

Defensive Ends
Carl Eller
Chris Doleman

Another great Vikings position duo. I had the fantastic opportunity over the weekend to meet both Hall of Fame defensive ends. I witnessed so many wonderful moments in Canton. Meeting these two was the highlight. Doleman is fighting brain cancer and underwent surgery a few months ago. It's amazing that he made it to Canton. It just goes to show what the event and the people mean to him.

Defensive Tackles
Joe Greene
John Randle

Whenever I see Joe Greene I'm always amazed that his nickname was/is "Mean." Seeing John Randle always makes me smile because he's never without one. That gets him the nod over Bob Lilly.

Linebackers
Robert Brazile
Ray Lewis
Brian Urlacher

The great linebacker trio of the 2018 Hall of Fame Class take all three spots. Like Kramer, Robert Brazile should've made it long ago. His inclusion in this class brought back so many memories of those fun 1970s Oilers teams.

Cornerbacks
Mike Haynes
Darrell Green

Mike Haynes is still so smooth. Like Randle, Darrell Green is always smiling.

Safeties
Brian Dawkins
Rod Woodson

Hopefully Brian Dawkins' induction can shakes Hall of Fame votes loose for other deserving safeties. Rod Woodson could take any position in this secondary.

Kicker
Morten Andersen

Morten Andersen gets the nod over Jan Stenerud.

Punter
Ray Guy

Don't let Ray Guy being the only Hall of Fame punter take anything away from his being on this team.
