Underrated AFC Players

Following yesterday's NFC players, here's a look at an underrated player on each of the 16 AFC teams.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Daniel McCullers, NT
It's a reach to consider McCullers an underrated player as he's yet to start a single game. He's not really an underrated player. He's an unrated player. The Steelers defense has undergone a remarkable remake in recent years. McCullers is in the middle of it. He's hard to miss. A 6'7" 350 lb nose tackle is ridiculous.

Cincinnati Bengals
George Iloka, S
Iloka's time as an underrated player is about to end. He's a solid football player. He has a new contract. Reggie Nelson has departed. Iloka is now the leader of the back of the Bengals defense.

Baltimore Ravens
Brandon Williams, NT
There are a lot of terrific interior defensive linemen around the league. Williams is about to join that group. If he hasn't already.

Cleveland Browns
Christian Kirksey, LB
I've been a fan of Kirksey since his Iowa days. He's emerging as an excellent NFL player for a team that desperately needs some players.

New England Patriots
Jabaal Sheard, DE
The Patriots have an interesting, talented defensive line group. Even with the loss of Chandler Jones. Sheard might be the most versatile of the bunch. It will be fun to see how Bill Belichick and Mike Patricia use him in his second season with the team.

Miami Dolphins
Kiko Alonso, LB
Alonso is a very good football player. The Dolphins are his third team in as many years. That's a tough road. He just has to stay healthy so that he can grow comfortable in another new defense.

New York Jets
Matt Forte, RB
It's so hard to imagine Forte on a team other than the Chicago Bears. Forte has been an underrated back his entire career.

Buffalo Bills
Stephon Gilmore, CB
Maybe it's a stretch to call Gilmore underrated. He's been considered one of the better young corners for a couple of years. He's moved up to one of the best corners in the league.

Indianapolis Colts
Arthur Jones, DL
An injury last year keeps Jones as an underrated player. If he's healthy and stays healthy he should be an impact player for the Colts.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Telvin Smith, LB
Smith popped up on the NFL's Top 100 Players a couple of weeks ago so maybe he's no longer underrated. He makes plays all over the field. So much so that it often seems like there's four him out there.

Houston Texans
Jonathan Joseph, CB
I've felt that Joseph has been underrated for all of his career. He's still solid at 32 but he's creeping to the end of his career.

Tennessee Titans
Brian Schwenke, C
This pick probably has more than a little to do with Schwenke having played at Cal. The Titans are putting together a solid offensive line. Schwenke is in the middle of it.

Oakland Raiders
Gabe Jackson, G
The Raiders might have the best interior offensive line in the league. Recent free agent additions Rodney Hudson and Keleche Osemele get most of the attention. In only two seasons Jackson has been excellent.

Denver Broncos
Brandon Marshall, LB
Marshall would get a lot more attention if there weren't so many other stars on that Broncos defense. Or if there wasn't a receiver out there with the same name. This Brandon Marshall simply cleans up everything in the middle of the Broncos defense.

San Diego Chargers
Brandon Mebane, DT
Mebane is another one of my favorite Cal players. He was a solid run-stopper in the middle of the Seahawks excellent defense for so long. Now, he'll do the same for the Chargers. He and Corey Liuget should be a nice pair on the Chargers defensive line.

Kansas City Chiefs
Mitchell Schwartz, T
Another Cal player. Schwartz is new to the Chiefs. He developed into one of the best right tackles in the league during his four years in Cleveland. He should be the same for the Chiefs.
