Minnesota Vikings Week 2 Superlatives

On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings had a gritty 9-3 win over the Chicago Bears. A rainy day and soggy turf wasn’t made for offensive fireworks. Bears head coach Ben Johnson boasted last week that his offense would threaten league scoring records. Introductions to Brian Flores and the Vikings defense were apparently needed. That explosive Bears offense could only manage three points. That wasn’t enough. Here are some of the players that made the big 9-3 win possible. 

Offensive Player of the Game

Aaron Jones Sr., RB

The Vikings offense scored nine points, had 11 first downs, and managed 246 yards. In today’s NFL, those are meager numbers. In this game, it was enough. Aaron Jones provided a significant slice of those 246 yards.

All of them

All of them is every player that took a snap and every coach. This was dominant team defense. While it was the entire defense that shut down the Bears “mighty” offense, there were some singular players that made singular plays.

Dallas Turner

Through two games (two wins), Dallas Turner has arguably been the Vikings best player. In Jordan Love and Caleb Williams, Turner has harassed two of the most difficult to sack quarterbacks in the league on nearly every dropback. His sack of Tyson Bagent ended the game yesterday and sealed the big win.

Isaiah Rodgers recovered a D’Andre Swift fumble on the Vikings one-yard line and blocked a field goal that would’ve tied the score at 6-6. Those two plays likely took 10 Bears points off the board. In a game the Vikings won 9-3, that’s a big deal.

Jalen Redmond forced the fumble that Isaiah Rodgers recovered and helped keep the Bears potent run game in check. He also deflected a pass.

Special Teams Player of the Game

Will Reichard, K

With three field goals providing the winning points, Will Reichard is an easy choice as the Special Teams Player of the Game. His third field goal doinked off an upright. Even his “misses” are good.
