The NCAA's Early Signing Period has turned the traditional first Wednesday of February into just another Wednesday in February. Most of the high school football players signed their letters of intent in December. The few that didn't do so then did so last Wednesday. 247Sports had 59 high school players with 5 stars. The usual cast of schools raked in most of the top high school football players.

Georgia 8
Alabama 6
Texas 4
Clemson 3
LSU 3
Michigan 3
Ohio State 3
Oklahoma 3
Tennessee 3
Texas A&M 3

Those 10 schools signed 39 of the 59 5-star players. The rich get richer. One surprise among the rich is that the top player signed by Clemson, the reigning national champs, is #23. What isn't a surprise is that all three of Clemson's top-59 players is a receiver. Receiver U carries on.

There are only four running backs among the top-59. 20 years ago, there were probably three times as many.

Running back isn't the only light position. There are only three quarterbacks.
