Minnesota Vikings Coaching Adjustments

The Minnesota Vikings did a little tweaking of their coaching staff last week. At least the tweaking became public last night. They moved assistant receivers coach Drew Petzing to assistant quarterbacks coach. It's a promotion of sorts and is the result of Petzing getting a couple of opportunities with other teams this offseason. Defensive assistant Jeff Howard is now the assistant defensive backs coach. Ellis Hill was hired as assistant strength and conditioning coach.

It may only amaze me but it amazes me that quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski is the most senior coach on the Vikings staff. 13 years. He was hired by Brad Childress and survived two coaching changes. Assistant Special Teams coach Ryan Ficken is right behind Stefanski with 12 years in Minnesota.

This is Senior Offensive Assistant Todd Downing's sixth year with the Vikings but his first five were 2001-05. He's been moving around the league between his coaching days in Minnesota.

Defensive line coach Andre Patterson is another coach on his second stint with the Vikings. He was the team's defensive line coach from 1998-99. He's coached in the NFL and college over the years in between including a few years with Mike Zimmer with the Dallas Cowboys in the early 2000s.

Barring any surprises, the 2018 Minnesota Vikings coaching staff is set.
