It's the AFC's turn.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Jaylen Samuels, RB, Northc Carolina State, fifth round
Samuels can do a little bit of everything. His versatility can save a team a roster spot. Or two.
Cleveland Browns
Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma, first round
It would be great to see the Browns end their run of terrible football. The best way to do that is to get solid, consistent play from the quarterback. I thought that Mayfield was the best quarterback in the draft before I started thinking about it too much.
Cincinnati Bengals
Sam Hubbard, DE, Ohio State, third round
I liked a lot of the Bengals picks. Billy Price, Jessie Bates, Sam Hubbard. I'll go with Hubbard. He looks like the sort of hard working defensive lineman that consistently harasses linemen and quarterbacks.
Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville, first round
Jackson was a blast to watch in college. He'll be a blast to watch in the NFL. Except when the Vikings play the Ravens. He might be a nightmare then.
New England Patriots
Isaiah Wynn, OL, Georgia, first round
Wynn was my favorite pick for the Vikings for nearly all of the draft evaluation process.
New York Jets
Nathan Shepherd, DT, Fort Hays State
Shepherd is a terrific football talent from Canada by way of itty-bitty Fort Hays State. That's real easy to like.
Buffalo Bills
Harrison Phillips, DT, Stanford, third round
Before the Vikings traded their late third round pick I thought that Phillips would be their pick. Instead the Vikings were gone from the third round and Phillips was headed to Buffalo. They will love him there just like they love Kyle Williams. They only real knock on Phillips is that he went to Stanford.
Miami Dolphins
Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama
Fitzpatrick was one of the best, most focused football players in the draft. His one weakness seemed to be that he could effectively play all of the positions in the secondary. How's that a weakness?
Indianapolis Colts
Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame, first round
It isn't often that it's a blast to watch the highlights of a guard. Nelson's film is a blast. He destroys defenders. He was the best football player in the draft.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Ronnie Harrison, S, Alabama, third round
Maybe he played in the shadow of Minkah Fitzpatrick and the other elite athletes on the Tide defense but Harrison is an excellent player. He's going to find a place in the Jaguars well-stocked defense.
Houston Texans
Justin Reid, S, Stanford, third round
The Texans didn't make their first pick until the third round. They made it count with Reid. Even though he's from Stanford.
Tennessee Titans
Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama, first round
Another Alabama defensive player. I guess that I like the Tide defense and the players that play in it.
Oakland Raiders
Maurice Hurst, DT, Michigan, fifth round
Hurst was probably the one non-interior lineman that I hoped that the Vikings would select in the first round. He was supposed to be a first round pick but he fill in the draft due to medical questions about his heart. If he experiences zero issues in the NFL, as he did in college, the Raiders got the biggest steal in the draft.
Denver Broncos
Josey Jewell, LB, Iowa, fourth round
Jewell makes tackles. Lots and lots of tackles. He's always around the ball.
Los Angeles Chargers
Derwin James, S, Florida State, first round
James is a top-5 talent. The Chargers lucked into him with the 17th pick. He's the unquestioned biggest steal of the first round. With the gift of James the Chargers have put together a great secondary.
Kansas City Chiefs
Khalil McKenzie, DT, Tennessee, sixth round
The Chiefs selecting the son of Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzue might be my favorite pick of the entire draft.
