This year, it feels like teams are attacking the pick signing process. All but the Los Angeles Rams. They have a unique policy of putting their rookies through some sort of fiscal responsibility training before they hand over a decent sum of money. Then they sign their draft picks in bulk. Maybe that’s why they’re always trading away their draft picks. Reduce that class size. The Washington Football Team has already signed all ten members of their draft class. 30 other teams have been working to sign their draft classes. Here’s a look at the signing status of the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Six of of the 32 first round picks have signed their first NFL contracts. That doesn’t seem to reflect the signing flurry I thought I’d seen.
The Minnesota Vikings had made it a practice to get their draft picks signed before the first rookie minicamp. For a variety of reasons they’d gotten away from that practice the past couple years. This year was closer to the previous years than the past couple years. They started signing their picks on Thursday. The first signings, their fifth- and sixth-round picks, came a full day before the first rookie practice.
Here’s the signing status of their 11 draft picks:
1. Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech-Signed
3. Kellen Mond, QB, Texas A&M
3. Chazz Surratt, LB, North Carolina
3. Wyatt Davis, OG, Ohio State
3. Patrick Jones II, Edge, Pittsburgh
4. Kene Nwangwu, RB, Iowa State-Signed
4. Camryn Bynum, S, Cal-Signed
4. Janarius Robinson, Edge, Florida State
5. Ihmir Smith-Marsette, WR, Iowa-Signed
5. Zach Davidson, TE, Central Missouri-Signed
6. Jaylen Twyman, DT, Pittsburgh-Signed
Six of 11. They still have some pick signing work to do but it was nice to see it started earlier rather than later.
