I’ve always enjoyed the NFL draft takes of the Move the Sticks duo of Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks. They’ve done the scouting work. Most draft analysts do it for fun. They’ve done it for real. That doesn’t mean that they’re always right. It just means that they know how it works. Jeremiah released his first mock last week. Brooks released his this week. Here it is.

The eye-opener of Bucky Brooks’ mock draft is Alabama receiver Devonta Smith dropping to the Arizona Cardinals at 16. He’d be fun to watch in a Kyler Murray-led offense. I suppose that I can see Smith dropping due to the NFL’s nearly universal preference for receivers that aren’t as slightly built as Smith. Talent works on a football field no matter the package and Devonta Smith has talent.
As a Minnesota Vikings fan my early draft preferences at #14 have still looks something like this:
Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama
Gregory Rousseau, Edge, Miami
Kwity Paye, Edge, Michigan
For some reason, I feel that my preferences have been further refined to Christian Barmore or an offensive lineman. Rashawn Slater has been my favorite for a while. If he’s gone, as he is in Brooks’ mock, I think that I’m presently preferring Barmore or USC offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker. The Vikings have to improve the pass rush and I wouldn’t hate it if the Vikings picked Gregory Rousseau or Kwity Paye at #14. I’m just starting to think that the best way to improve the pass rush is from the interior of the defensive line. It’s been a while since the Vikings have had a three-technique (Kevin Williams) that spends a lot of his playing time in the opponents backfield. It’d be nice to have that again.
