This might be the youngest Vikings team that I can recall. 68.9% of the roster is 25 and under. Only a handful are in the late-20s-early 30s group. Although that handful is made up mostly of the team's leaders, on and off the field.
Offensive line has been a serious issue for several years. The hope for an improved line rests in these players.
G | Pat Elflein, 24 |
T | Brian O'Neill, 23 |
C | Garrett Bradbury, 23 |
G | Dru Samia, 21 |
Pat Elflein, Brian O'Neill, and rookie Garrett Bradbury are starters. Rookie Dru Samia will compete a starting role this summer but is more likely a year away. The above should soon be the cornerstones of a, hopefully, strong offensive line.
Small school (Elon) rookie tackle Oli Udoh, 22, has the size and natural physical traits that can't be taught. If he develops and plays to those natural attributes, the Vikings might have their starting offensive line for a long time, or as long as they can afford them. Talent and youth are on their side. It sure would be nice if the offensive line woes are a thing of the past.
The Vikings have a nice blend of talented veteran leadership and excellent youthful potential. Now, they just have to blend to become a championship team.
