Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers, QB
Not only would this addition give the Vikings one of the best quarterbacks in the game it would take away all hope from the Packers.
Chicago Bears
Khalil Mack, DE
As with Rodgers, adding Khalil Mack would give the Vikings one of the best football players in the game it would also take Mack from the Bears.
Detroit Lions
Kenny Golladay, WR
Kenny Golladay would give the Vikings the big, physical receiver that they are currently missing. Laquon Treadwell was drafted in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft to be that sort of receiver. So far, he hasn't. I might be the only remaining Vikings fan that maintains a scrap of faith in Treadwell. It wouldn't take any faith with Golladay. He's already proven to be that sort of receiver.
Philadelphia Eagles
Fletcher Cox, DT
Adding Fletcher Cox requires no explanation.
New York Giants
Kevin Zeitler, OG
I like the potential of the Vikings young guards but Kevin Zeitler would improve the offensive line immediately.
Washington Redskins
Brandon Scherff, OG
Brandon Scherff would immediately upgrade the Vikings offensive line.
Dallas Cowboys
Tyron Smith, OT
Tyron Smith or Riley Reiff. No offense to Reiff, but Smith, please.
New Orleans Saints
Michael Thomas, WR
Michael Thomas is the receiver that all Vikings fan wish that the team had selected rather than Treadwell. In this little exercise, Vikings fans get their big receiver.
Atlanta Falcons
Julio Jones, WR
It was tough to pass on DT Grady Jarrett but Julio Jones is the pick from the Falcons. Tomorrow, maybe it's Jarrett.
Carolina Panthers
D.J. Moore, WR
The Panthers have some versatile offensive players that are very appealing in Moore, Christian McCaffrey, and Curtis Samuel. I'm going with Moore as much for his potential on returns as for his impact on offense.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Devin White, LB
Mike Evans is tempting. The Vikings are in nickel so often that they don't really need another linebacker. If Mike Zimmer had Devin White he'd find an every down role for him.
Arizona Cardinals
Budda Baker, S
I've been a fan of Budda Baker since his collegiate days at Washington. Baker and Harrison Smith at the back of the Vikings defense would be a very nice situation.
Los Angeles Rams
Aaron Donald, DT
No explanation needed for this addition.
San Francisco 49ers
DeForest Buckner, DT
They only thing keeping DeForest Buckner from being an annual All-Pro is Aaron Donald and Fletcher Cox. He's in their league as a player. Football people know it even if the media and fans don't.
Seattle Seahawks
Tyler Lockett, WR
Tyler Lockett's the pick mostly for his kick and punt return talents.
Baltimore Ravens
Orlando Brown, OT
It's Orlando Brown or Ronnie Stanley from the Ravens. I'd pencil in Brown as the Vikings right tackle for the next decade.
Cincinnati Bengals
Geno Atkins, DT
Reuniting Geno Atkins with Zimmer would be fun. Even if it's only for a couple of seasons.
Cleveland Browns
Baker Mayfield, QB
It feels like some have already given Baker Mayfield a bronze bust and a gold jacket. His potential as a game-changing QB is as intriguing as any I've seen after having done so little.
Pittsburgh Steelers
David DeCastro, OG
If a team has a terrific offensive lineman, the Vikings have a spot for him. David DeCastro fits the bill on the Steelers.
Buffalo Bills
Ed Oliver, DT
Ed Oliver's size, speed, and strength has drawn comparison to John Randle and Aaron Donald. That's such a high bar but it works for me.
Miami Dolphins
Christian Wilkins, DT
Christian Wilkins was one of my favorite players in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Vikings get him in this little exercise.
New England Patriots
Tom Brady, QB
It would only be for a season or two but it would be fun.
New York Jets
Quinnen Williams, DT
Except for the Brady pick, each AFC East team provided the Vikings with a rookie defensive tackle.
Houston Texans
DeAndre Hopkins, WR
DeAndre Hopkins has emerged as one of the best receivers in the game. I can happily find a spot for him in the Vikings offense.
Indianapolis Colts
Andrew Luck, QB
The Colts have quickly put together a young, talented team. Despite being tempted by Quenton Nelson and Malik Hooker I can't pass on Andrew Luck.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Josh Allen, LB
I thought that Josh Allen was the best player in the 2019 NFL Draft. I'm not sure what role he'd have in the Vikings defense but it sure would be fun finding a few.
Tennessee Titans
Jurrell Casey, DT
Like all of these defensive tackles, Jurrell Casey would fit in nicely on the Vikings defensive line.
Denver Broncos
Von Miller, LB
Von Miller is too damn good at rushing the quarterback to not pluck from the Broncos.
Kansas City Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes, QB
This is an easy decision.
Los Angeles Chargers
Derwin James, S
It's tough to pass on Joey Bosa but I'd love to see Derwin James patrolling all over the Vikings defense for the next decade.
Oakland Raiders
No player on the Raiders roster jumped out at me. Maybe Josh Jacobs. Maybe Maurice Hurst. Maybe Lamarcus Joyner.
***
I was surprised at the number of receivers (6) that I plucked from the other 31 teams. I figured that I'd be grabbing a lot of offensive linemen and defensive tackles but I wasn't expecting the number of recovers.I was also surprised by the number of rookies (5).
