Throwback Thursday: Making Weight

It's hard to believe that the 2016 NFL Draft was one week ago. Just to lighten things up a bit and take a break from the non-stop draft stuff here's a little "throwback" nugget from Dan Daly and Bob O'Donnel's excellent book The Pro Football Chronicle.

Making Weight

Bulldog Turner's surefire tips for beating the weekly weigh-in.

*Always wear a T-shirt and underwear. Just before getting on the scale, take off the T-shirt and nonchalantly place it at the left end of the balance arm. This will act as a counterweight and buy you several pounds. If that isn't enough, use the underwear, too. "I can still put a jock strap in exactly the right place to knock off five pounds," Bulldog says.

*Be sure a friend follows you in line. When you step on the scale, have him put a finger under each of your buttocks and lift ever so gently. Be sure he's a good friend.

*Place your feet on the scale so that your big toes extend over the edge. Curl them over and push up. You'll be surprised at how many pounds you can take off.

Note: Turner was fined ($50 a pound) only once in his 13 years with the Bears. He claims to have been over his 230-pound playing weight quite a bit more than that.
