Combine Medal Count

NFL.com has been running a medal count for the colleges with players taking part in the 2016 Scouting Combine. It wasn't a great surprise to see Ohio State to take top honors, They had the most players in Indianapolis and those players are terrific athletes. It was the college that finished in a tie for second place that caught my attention.

Cal was running right with Ohio State until linebacker Buckeye linebacker Darron Lee took his turn on Sunday. The medal race was pretty much done by the time that he was done. Running back Daniel Lasco was a big reason for Cal's strong showing. He had the top running back performances in the vertical jump and broad jump. He added a second place showing in the 60-yard shuttle. His fine performance might have been a surprise to some since he dealt with injuries most of last season. He was Cal's team MVP in 2014. Perhaps his strong Combine showing makes up for his missed playing time in 2015.

Nice work Harvard. North Dakota State too. It's nice to see some of the little guys with the big boys. Even if it's a medal count for an event in which no medals were actually given.

Here's the rest of the colleges that had some of their players take home imaginary medals.
