Minnesota Vikings “Unofficial” Depth Chart

The Minnesota Vikings face division foe Green Bay Packers on Sunday. In advance of the season-opener, the Vikings officially released their “unofficial” depth chart. After training camp, preseason games, and three rounds of cuts, there weren’t many surprises.

Minnesota Vikings “Unofficial” Depth Chart

Offense

Quarterback
Kirk Cousins
Nick Mullens

Training camp started with Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond competing for the backup job. That went so well that the Vikings traded for Nick Mullens before the final preseason game. Now, the Vikings quarterback depth is Mullens and David Blough on the practice squad.

Running Back
Dalvin Cook
Alexander Mattison
Kene Nwangwu
Ty Chandler

This is a deep and versatile group.

Fullback
C.J. Ham

Wide Receiver
Justin Jefferson
K.J. Osborn

Wide Receiver
Adam Thielen
Jalen Reagor
Jalen Nailor

Recent trade acquisition Jalen Reagor is the wildcard. After being selected right before Justin Jefferson in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, he had a lot of pressure to excel in Philadelphia. It didn’t go well. Perhaps a new location, without the intense spotlight, will give Reagor the opportunity to just have fun playing football. He was a first round pick for his explosive natural ability. He still has that.

Tight End
Irv Smith Jr.
Johnny Mundt
Ben Ellefson

Left Tackle
Christian Darrisaw
Blake Brandel
Vederian Lowe

Left Guard
Ezra Cleveland

Center
Garrett Bradbury
Austin Schlottman

Garrett Bradbury’s hoped for improvement could be key to a rising, young, and talented offensive line.

Right Guard
Ed Ingram
Chris Reed

Right Tackle
Brian O’Neill
Oli Udoh

Defense

Outside Linebacker
Danielle Hunter
Patrick Jones II
Luiji Vilain

Defensive End
Jonathan Bullard
Ross Blacklock

The biggest surprise of training camp was probably the release of Armon Watts. He was an expected starter in the Vikings new three-man defensive line. With Watts gone, Jonathan Bullard inherits that spot. Acquired last week in a trade with the Houston Texans, Ross Blacklock might take the job when he’s comfortable with the defense and his new team.

Nose Tackle
Harrison Phillips

The pass-rushing duo of Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius might be the focus of the Vikings 3-4 defense. Nose tackle Harrison Phillips might be the key to it.

Defensive End
Dalvin Tomlinson
James Lynch
Esezi Otomewo

Outside Linebacker
Za’Darius Smith
D.J. Wonnum

Weakside Linebacker
Jordan Hicks
Brian Asamoah

Middle Linebacker
Eric Kendricks
Troy Dye

Cornerback
Cameron Dantzler Sr.
Akayleb Evans
Kris Boyd

Cornerback
Patrick Peterson
Chandon Sullivan
Andrew Booth Jr.

Chandon Sullivan is currently the Vikings top nickel corner. If something were to take Patrick Peterson off the field, I’m sure that Andrew Booth Jr. would take his spot.

Safety
Harrison Smith
Josh Metellus

Safety
Camryn Bynum
Lewis Cine

How long will Camryn Bynum hold off Lewis Cine? It shouldn’t be a surprise to see three safeties on the field.

Special Teams

Kicker
Greg Joseph

Punter
Ryan Wright

Holder
Ryan Wright

Long Snapper
Nick DePaola

Kick Returner
Kene Nwangwu
Ty Chandler
K.J. Osborn

Punt Returner
Jalen Reagor
K.J. Osborn
Jalen Nailor

The return duo of Kene Nwangwu and Jalen Reagor is the most promising since the days of Cordarrelle Patterson and Marcus Sherels.
