Minnesota Vikings 90-man Roster, By Age

The Minnesota Vikings roster is one of the youngest in the NFL. I saw this ranking a couple weeks ago. Rosters change daily so it was probably outdated as soon as it was posted. It still shows the point of it. The Vikings roster is one of the youngest in the league.

Team

Average Age

1. Los Angeles Rams

24.62

2. Minnesota Vikings

24.74

2. Carolina Panthers

24.74

4. Jacksonville Jaguars

24.80

5. New York Jets

24.82

6. Los Angeles Chargers

24.85

7. Denver Broncos

24.93

8. Atlanta Falcons

24.98

8. Cleveland Browns

24.98

8. Indianapolis Colts

24.98

Considering the frequency with which they trade draft picks for veteran players, it’s a surprise to see the Rams as the youngest team in the league. This isn’t about the Rams. It’s about the Vikings. Here’s the Minnesota Vikings 90-man roster broken down by age.

This is going to be Danielle Hunter’s seventh season in the league. He’s only 26. Incredible. His 27th birthday is October 29. Irv Smith Jr. is entering his third year in the league. He’s 22. 23 on August 9. He’s younger than several of the rookies.

At the other end of the age spectrum is punt Zach Von Rosenberg. He’s a rookie. He’s also 30. He dabbled with a professional baseball career before he decided to pursue a real sport at LSU.

I sure hope that the Vikings plan for the offensive line is a success. Considering the draft picks used to acquire them the starting five is expected to look like this as soon as the early weeks of training camp.

RT  Brian O’Neill (2nd round 2018)
RG Wyatt Davis (3rd round 2021)
 C   Garrett Bradbury (1st round 2019)
LG Ezra Cleveland (2nd round 2020)
LT  Christian Darrisaw (1st round 2021)

The Vikings have never put together an offensive line made up entirely of homegrown, early-round draft picks. Brian O’Neill is the only one of the five that’s established himself as an effective player. He has room for improvement, hopefully much better line talent around him will help, but he’s become a very good football player. He’s earned the second contract that he’s likely to receive in the coming weeks. If this plan works, the above offensive line could front the offense for the next 7-10 years. O’Neill and Garrett Bradbury are the old guys at 25. Ezra Cleveland is 23. Rookies Christian Darrisaw and Wyatt Davis are the babies at 22.

Speaking of the 22-year olds, the future success of the Vikings could depend on the development of these kids. Justin Jefferson, Irv Smith Jr., Cameron Dantzler, Chrisitan Darrisaw, Wyatt Davis, Alexander Mattison, Harrison Hand, Camryn Bynum, Patrick Jones II, Janarius Robinson. Some of the best young players on the team are only 22-years old.

I couldn’t find the age of undrafted free agent linebacker Christian Elliss. I went with 23 simply because he followed two years behind his 25-year old brother, New Orleans Saints linebacker Kaden Elliss, at Idaho.

I can’t believe that Harrison Smith is 32. He’s a young 32.
