A Tie!

The Minnesota Vikings neither won nor lost their Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. It was a 29-29 tie. It’s a disappointing result because it feels as if they didn’t play a game at all. A tie! The Vikings could’ve, should’ve, would’ve won if their kicker had made one of the three field goals that he attempted. Three missesd kicks. Two of the misses occurred in overtime. The final overtime miss came as time expired and was about the distance of an extra point.

A tie!

The Vikings $84 million quarterback Kirk Cousins was heroic in leading the offense to 22 fourth quarter points. The final touchdown and 2-point conversion tied the score at 29 with seconds to play. The kicking team didn’t have to be heroic. The offense had already done that. The kicking team just had to do their job.

Cousins’ numbers: 35/48, 425 yards, and 4 TDs.

At least on this day, the Vikings had a quarterback that was on par with the one playing for the Packers.

The Vikings only tied the Packers despite Stefon Diggs catching 9 passes for 128 yards and 2 TDs. The second of those TDs was a team-jumpstarting 75-yarder. He also caught the 2-point conversion that tied the score.

The Vikings only tied the Packers despite Adam Thielen catching 12 passes for 131 yards and the touchdown that set up the tying 2-point conversion.

On this day, those guys reminded this guy of some of the great passing combos in the game’s history.
Otto Graham, Dante Lavelli, Mac Speedie
Bob Waterfield/Norm Van Brocklin, Elroy Hirsch, Tom Fears
John Unitas, Raymond Berry, Lenny Moore
Dan Fouts, John Jefferson, Kellen Winslow
Kurt Warner, Isaac Bruce, Tory Holt
Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne
On this day, the Packers defense had no answer for Kirk Cousins, Stefon Diggs, and Adam Thielen.

The Vikings defense might not have been as heroic as the offense but they did hold the Packers offense to a single touchdown. They did their job. Unfortunately, the kicking team didn’t.

A tie!
