Pac-12 Football Awards

The Pac-12 Conference announced their postseason awards this week. There weren't many surprises among the top prizes.

Offensive Player of the Year
Bryce Love, RB, Stanford

Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year
Vita Vea, DT, Washington

Freshman Offensive Co-Players of the Year

An offensive lineman getting any sort of player of the year award is remarkable. Even if he has to share it.

The best that Cal could do was four players earning Honorable Mention Honors.
LB Devante Downs, Sr.
RB Patrick Laird, Jr.
DL James Looney, Sr.
OL Patrick Mekari, Jr.

It would've been tough to wrestle the Pat Tillman Award from Vita Vea but Devante Downs was in the running until an injury sidelined him about halfway through the season. He was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for a third of the games in which he played.

Patrick Laird probably did more for his team than any Pac-12 back not named Bryce Love.

Congratulations to all of the Pac-12 Award winners.
