Top 100 Players of 2016: 100-91

NFL Network kicked off it's sixth edition of Top 100 Players of ... series last Wednesday. This show triggers much debate just as rankings always do. Unlike most rankings this one's voted on by the people that actually play the game. The players rarely get a platform for their views so it's nice to see those views each year. The best thing about these shows is the player commentary on their peers. It's informative and entertaining. Often very entertaining. Some of the best comments came from now former Pittsburgh Steelers corner Ike Taylor. It's a real shame that he retired at the end of the 2015 season. He was immediately hired by NFL Network. That came as no surprise as he's put up six years of excellent commentary on the Top 100.

The players ranked 100-91 were revealed on Wednesday. Here are those players.

100. Derek Carr, QB, Oakland Raiders
  99. Cameron Jordan. DE, New Orleans Saints
  98. Jarvis Landry, WR, Miami Dolphins
  97. Richie Incognito, G, Buffalo Bills
  96. Sammy Watkins, WR, Buffalo Bills
  95. Mike Daniels, DE, Green Bay Packers
  94. Gary Barnidge, TE, Cleveland Browns
  93. Jeremy Maclin, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
  92. Andrew Luck, QB, Indianapolis Colts
  91. Travis Kelce, TE, Kansas City Chiefs

If there's a surprise in the bottom 10 of the rankings it's probably the two quarterbacks. Carr cracking the list after only two seasons is a surprise as is Luck's drop from the top-10 in 2015 to 92 in 2016. Luck clearly dropped because he missed most of the 2015 season to injury. Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson all but a single game of the 2014 season and he didn't suffer a similar drop in 2015 ranking. I expected Luck to remain in the top half of the top 100. But this is the player's list.

During that first episode the player that finished at 101 was revealed. Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr. I expected him to make the Top 100 based on his being one of the best linebackers in the league. It should be the last time that he's outside the list.
