It's Spending Time

4PM ET today is the start of the 2015 version of NFL Free Agency. You wouldn't think so from the activity during the Legal Tampering Window.

Ndamukong Suh to Miami
Byron Maxwell to Philadelphia
Frank Gore to Philadelphia-maybe not?
Julius Thomas to Jacksonville
Orlando Franklin to San Diego
Jeremy Maclin to Kansas City
Torrey Smith to San Francisco
Pernell McPhee to Chicago
Jared Odrick to Jacksonville
Rodney Hudson to Oakland
and so much more

That's a lot of player movement when there shouldn't have been any. Legal tampering? More like illegal agreements. Oh well, what are you gonna do? At least the second wave, or legal wave, of free agent signings will receive more attention than they otherwise would have received. As for the first wave of shady agreements, most number among the top players in this year's free agent crop. No surprise there.

As for the Minnesota Vikings, they didn't make any illegal agreements. At least none that were reported. They signed a couple of their own free agents. That's always a good place to start.

Tom Johnson, DT
Cullen Loeffler, LS
Matt Asiata, RB

The Vikings were fortunate in that they had no big-time, must-sign free agents of their own. Johnson and Loeffler were the closest to must-sign and now they are back in the fold. Asiata performed admirably in a difficult situation last year.

The Vikings were reported to have interest in the following free agents from other teams during the Legal Tampering Window. How serious the interest will be determined soon.

Mike Iupati, G
Clint Boling, G
Rahim Moore, S
Taylor Mays, S
Adrian Clayborn, DE
George Selvie, DE
Shaun Hill, QB
Brian Hoyer, QB
Davon House, CB
Bradley Fletcher, CB
Brice McCain, CB
Michael Crabtree, WR

Guard is probably the Vikings most glaring hole right now. They have no left guard at this moment. Boling or Iupati would upgrade the offensive line immediately. Due to cost, Boling is the more likely option. There also appears to be mutual interest between player and team. Besides, Iupati appears headed to the Arizona Cardinals. A healthy Clayborn would also be a nice addition. He'd factor into the defensive line rotation. His playing time would be significant but he likely wouldn't be a starter. A team offering a better opportunity to start probably has the edge. The mutual interest between the Vikings and Hill is considered high. Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has experience with Mays from his days as the defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals. Under Zimmer, Mays was an effective "dime" linebacker and special teams player. If signed, he'd likely assume the same role in Minnesota.

The fun starts today.
