Counting Snaps

Here's how the Minnesota Vikings player snap counts (as counted by the Minneapolis Star Tribune) broke down in their 30-24 overtime win over the New York Jets on Sunday.

Offensive Snaps: 58

Quarterback: Teddy Bridgewater 58, Christian Ponder Did Not Play

As head coach Mike Zimmer said in his postgame press conference, "this is Bridgewater's team."

Running backs: Matt Asiata 45, FB Jerome Felton 10, Ben Tate 10, Joe Banyard 3, FB Zach Line Inactive

This will probably change over the next three games. Jerick McKinnon was place on IR on Saturday so there might have been a greater reliance than usual on Asiata on Sunday. Tate and Banyard should both see their carries go up. Or maybe, Adrian Peterson will soon take nearly all of the carries.

Receivers and tight ends: WR Charles Johnson 58, TE Kyle Rudolph 54,  WR Greg Jennings 52, WR Jarius Wright 35, TE Rhett Ellison 22, WR Cordarrelle Patterson 1, TE Chase Ford INA

The rise of Charles Johnson's impact on the offense has been sudden. It has related directly to the decline of Patterson's impact. Johnson has been great. Patterson hasn't. For the number of snaps played by Rudolph one would expect more than 2 catches for 9 yards. Rudolph is a more significant weapon than that. The 54 snaps are a pretty good indication that he's sufficiently recovered from his hernia surgery. He should play a bigger role in the pass offense.

Offensive line: LT Matt Kalil 58, C John Sullivan 58, RG Joe Berger 58, RT Mike Harris 58, LG Vladimir Ducasse 30, LG Charlie Johnson 28, David Yankey INA, J'Marcus Webb INA

The Vikings have been forced to test their offensive line depth this season. They might be down to only two season-opening starters (Kalil and Sullivan) for the final three games. Charlie Johnson suffered a sprained ankle against the Jets. His availability for the remainder of the season is very much in question.

Defensive Snaps: 78

Defensive line: DE Everson Griffen 76, DE Brian Robison 71, NT Linval Joseph 61, DT Tom Johnson 39, DT Shamar Stephen 37, DT Shariff Floyd 19, DE Corey Wootton 7, DE Justin Trattou 2, Scott Crichton INA

Floyd left the game when he aggravated a knee injury. Griffen played a season 97% of the snaps. His motor never slowed. He's having a fantastic season. It was curious to see Trattou active and Crichton inactive. Trattou was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday. Crichton was a 3rd-round pick last spring.

Linebackers: Chad Greenway 78, Gerald Hodges 57, Jasper Brinkley 45, Brandon Watts INA, Anthony Barr INA

The linebackers were scrambled when Barr was named inactive due to a knee injury. Hodges got the start in Barr's place. He made an immediate when he opened the game with a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown. I doubt that too many teams go into a game with only three linebackers active.

Defensive backs: CB Xavier Rhodes 78, FS Harrison Smith 76, SS Robert Blanton 75, CB Josh Robinson 54, S Andrew Sendejo 5, Jabari Price INA
-the Star Tribune apparently failed to track Captain Munnerlyn's snaps

Rhodes played every snap for the second consecutive week. He was terrific again. He's been one of the best corners in the league for the last month. Blanton was injured late in the game and his availability for practice this week is in question.

Special teams: Most snaps Marcus Sherels 21

Team-High Snaps: Greenway 86 (78 defense, 8 special teams)
