Injury Oddities

I found this little Twitter nugget from @NFLResearch interesting, if not unfortunately amusing. This list is, of course, inspired by the unusual manner in which Oakland Raiders receiver Antonio Brown injured his feet.

Oakland Raiders WR Antonio Brown (August 2019)

-Got frostbite on feet from not wearing proper footwear in cryotherapy machine

New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul (July 2015)

-Injured hand lighting fireworks on 4th of July, had to have right index finger amputated

-Missed 8 games due to the injury

Chicago Bears DE Lamarr Houston (Week 8, 2014)

-Tore ACL while celebrating a sack when his team trailed by 25 points in the fourth quarter

-Missed final 8 games of the season due to the injury

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (August 2014)

-Bruised foot carrying boxes out of training camp dorms

-Did not miss an regular-season due to the injury

Detroit Lions WR Nate Burleson (October 2013)

-Broke arm in a car accident caused by pizza sliding off his passenger seat

-Missed seven games due to the injury

Washington Redskins S LaRon Landry (June 2007)
-Missed start of minicamp due to paintball shot to the groin
-Did not miss any regular-season games due to the injury

Pittsburgh Steelers G Kendall Simmons (October 2006)

-Fell asleep with a cooling device on his foot and suffered a frost-bite like burn

-Missed one game due to the injury

Jacksonville Jaguars P Chris Hanson (October 2003)

-Suffered foot injury while swinging an axe in the locker room

-Wound up missing the rest of the season

Denver Broncos QB Brian Griese (September 2002)

-Missed practice Thursday ahead of Week 4 game after spraining his ankle the previous day when his dog tripped him on the stairs

-Returned to practice Friday and played that week

Arizona Cardinals K Bill Gramatica (Week 14, 2001)

-Suffered torn ACL in right (non-kicking) leg while celebrating a 42-yard FG 

-Made a 23-yard FG later in game then missed rest of season

Washington Redskins QB Gus Frerotte (Week 13, 1997)

-Suffered sprained neck after head-butting wall while celebrating a rushing TD

-Returned to start the following week

Washington Redskins HOF T Turk Edwards (Week 3, 1940)

-Suffered knee injury during pre game coin toss

-Injury ended his career
