It was a fine year for rookie running backs. Beyond the two that made this team, Dalvin Cook (Vikings) was among the league's best until he was lost to a knee injury in Week 4. Leonard Fournette (Jaguars), Joe Mixon (Bengals), and Tarik Cohen (Bears) have had excellent rookie seasons.
The New Orleans Saints crushed their draft. Alvin Kamara, Marshon Lattimore, Ryan Ramczyk, and safety Marcus Williams were immediate starters and/or difference-makers. I heard one talking head claim that this draft was one of the best in league history. People need to pump the breaks on claims like that. It's been one season. Teams have pulled multiple Hall of Famers out of a single draft. The Chicago Bears did so in 1965 with Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers. The Baltimore Ravens probably did the same in 1996 with Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis (induction pending). Then there's the ridiculous Pittsburgh Steelers draft of 1974. Jack Lambert, Mike Webster, Lynn Swann, and John Stallworth are all honored in Canton. The 2017 Saints rookies had great NFL debuts but they have to do it for much more than a single season.
