RIP Ted Marchibroda.
Marchibroda is best known as an offensive innovator and the head coach of the Colts, Baltimore and Indianapolis, and the Baltimore Ravens. He was also a quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Cardinals in the 1950s. In fact, it was partly his presence on the Steelers roster in 1955 that kept a young Johnny Unitas off of it. So, Marchibroda proved to be an asset for the Colts 20 years before he coached the team. He was also the coach that gave Bill Belichick his first job in football. His impact on the game was great and his influence remains.
The #2 seeds moved on to their conference championship games. Today, we see if the #1 seeds can join them.
The Seattle Seahawks shouldn't be playing today.
Here's a look at the Day 2 games of the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.
Seattle Seahawks @ Carolina Panthers
Pick: Panthers
The Seahawks will probably find the weather in Carolina more to their liking than the frigid conditions of Minneapolis. I still don't think that's enough to get past the Panthers. The Vikings showed last week that the Seahawks aren't the unbeatable monsters that many make them out to be. The stage is there for Cam Newton. He has to grab it and run, or pass, with it.
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Denver Broncos
Pick: Broncos
This game would be so much better if the Steelers offense wasn't so depleted. It's really a shame. The Steelers still have some pass-catching weapons in Martavis Bryant, Markus Wheaton, and Heath Miller. I'd sure like to see rookie Sammie Coates on the field as I don't have a lot of faith in the hands of Darius Heyward-Bey. Who would? The Broncos defense is great and I like seeing Peyton Manning back in charge of the offense. I sure hope that this game turns into the scorcher that it was intended to be.
