After two days of “legal” tampering, it’s amazing that today is the start of free agency. Many of the top free agents have already agreed to deals with new teams or renewed their stay with their current team. The new league year starts today at 1pm PT. That’s when much of the activity of the past couple days becomes officially official.
So, what the Minnesota Vikings been doing during the two days of “legal” tampering. They were quite active. They were especially active on Monday. Within the first six hours of the free agency frenzy, the Vikings had signed three defensive players. Improving the overall talent on the defense was one of the top priorities of the offseason. Adding three potential starters was a solid first step in that direction. Before the end of the first day there were rumors that the Vikings were interested in scooping up a running back surprisingly discarded by a divisional rival. Early on the second day, those rumors became real. They also added a quarterback. That’s always significant. And a kicker. Oh boy!
In all, the Vikings added six new players during the “legal” tampering period. They re-signed three of their own impending free agents. The Vikings lost four players to other teams. Two were difficult, even painful, losses. One was somewhat difficult. If it wasn’t for the team that signed him, the fourth won’t be missed as he spent very little time on the field.

Again, after all the activity of the past two days, it’s amazing that NFL Free Agency actually starts today. The Vikings still have many needs. They need to add to the interior defensive line. They need to add to the interior offensive line. They could probably use some cornerbacks.
