Minnesota Vikings Week 17 Superlatives

There was nothing super about the Minnesota Vikings horrible 41-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers. From the moment that center Austin Schlottman was carted off the field with a broken ankle while the Vikings were sitting on the Packers goal line, the game plummeted to embarrassing. There wasn’t much good in the game for the Vikings. Here are some of the players that didn’t have a horrible game.

Offensive Player of the Game

Jalen Nailor, WR

The blowout loss gave rookie Jalen Nailor an opportunity. He had three catches for 89 yards. His 47-yard catch and run ended in the end zone for his first NFL touchdown.

Defensive Player of the Game

Dalvin Tomlinson, DL
Duke Shelley, CB

Despite the slobbering of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo over Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense, the Vikings defense actually played fairly well. 14 of the Packers points were scored on the Vikings special teams and offense. All of the Packers scores came after Vikings miscues set them up with field position and/or momentum. Dalvin Tomlinson mostly had his way with the Packers blockers. His sack of Rodgers on fourth midway through the first quarter gave his offense the ball at the Packers 38-yard line. It should’ve been a game-changing play. Instead, Kirk Cousins threw a pick-6 four plays later. Duke Shelley simply continued his strong cornerback play. Despite giving up about eight inches to Christian Watson, Shelley shut out the emerging rookie.

Special Teams Player of the Game

Josh Metellus, S

For the second consecutive game, Josh Metellus blocked a punt. It set the offense up superbly at the Packers one-yard line. Unfortunately, nothing went the Vikings way after the blocked punt.
