New head coach. New general manager. A lot has changed this offseason with the Minnesota Vikings. When Tyler Williams was hired to be the team’s Executive Director of Player Health and Performance, I naively thought that he has replacing Eric Sugarman. I thought that Williams was the Vikings new head athletic trainer. I learned yesterday how naive I was when the Vikings announced the hiring of Uriah Myrie as head athletic trainer. A lot has changed with the Minnesota Vikings. It turns out that Tyler Williams’ title says it all. He will oversee the team’s player health and performance. Myrie will report to him. So will Dan Ridenour. He was announced yesterday as the team’s sports science coordinator/assistant strength and conditioning.
Uriah Myrie comes to the Vikings after five years as the assistant athletic trainer of the Houston Texans. Prior to the Texans, he was an assistant athletic trainer at Arizona State University, specifically working with player rehabilitation. He earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Delaware in 2011. He went on to earn a master’s degree in exercise and sports science from Utah in 2014.
Dan Ridenour joins the Vikings after serving as the assistant director of the Nebraska Athletic Performance Lab at the University of Nebraska. As assistant director, he worked with coaching and support staffs on the integration of technologies, training strategies and rehabilitation processes to promote athletic development, health and training efficiency. He earned degrees in physical education and communication studies from Luther College. He received his master’s in exercise science from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and is remotely working toward his professional doctorate in human performance innovation at the University of Limerick in Limerick, Ireland.
A lot has changed this offseason with the Minnesota Vikings. The player health and performance side of things has a whole new structure.
