Minnesota Vikings 80-man Roster

The Minnesota Vikings had a fairly busy day yesterday.

-acquired defensive tackle P.J. Hall from the Las Vegas Raiders for a conditional 2021 seventh-round pick.
-activated LB Anthony Barr and DE Ifeadi Odenigbo from Reserve/COVID-19 list
-removed WR Quartney Davis from the Active/Non-football Injury list after passing his physical
-placed LB Ben Gedeon on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list
-waived WR Davion Davis and CB Kemon Hall

Those moves adjusted the Vikings roster to 80 players. 79 of the players are truly active and Ben Gedeon is Active/Physically Unable to Perform. Is it just me that finds the term "physically unable to perform" a little unkind? Michael Pierce is on the Reserve/Opt-Out list. He won't be on the active roster for the entirety of the 2020 NFL season. Five players are on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Depending on their condition and stage in the return process they could return to the roster at any time over the next week.

The Vikings active roster is at 80 players but it doesn't have to be at 80 players. Under the new COVID-inspired CBA, teams can have 90 players on the active roster until August 16. Seeing as teams can only have 80 players in the building at one time, teams with more than 80 players would have to hold split-squad workouts. I mention this roster-size nugget simply because I hadn't been sure whether the Vikings were going the 80-man roster route. The waiving of Davion Davis and Kemon Hall is pretty solid evidence that they are. That would mean that more players will be waived as the players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list come off of it. Hopefully, no other players are placed on that list as the team moves through this odd training camp and season.

After a fairly busy, roster-juggling start to the week the Minnesota Vikings roster looks like this.
