NFL's Top 26 Contracts For 2018

Matt Ryan jumped to the top of the list of well compensated NFL players with his giant contract extension. Congratulations to Ryan but all it really does is set the floor for Aaron Rodgers' next contract. For now, here's how the top paid NFL players rank.

1.   Matt Ryan, QB, Atlanta Falcons-$30,000,000
2.   Kirk Cousins, QB, Minnesota Vikings-$28,000,000
3.   Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, San Francisco 49ers-$27,500,000
4.   Matthew Stafford, QB, Detroit Lions-$27,000,000
5.   Derek Carr, QB, Oakland Raiders-$25,005,000
6.   Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints-$25,000,000
7.   Andrew Luck, QB, Indianapolis Colts-$24,594,000
8.   Joe Flacco, QB, Baltimore Ravens-$22,133,133
9.   Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers-$22,000,000
10. Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks-$21,900,000
11. Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers-$21,850,000
12. Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants-$21,000,000
13. Philip Rivers, QB, Los Angeles Chargers-$20,812,500
14. Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers-$20,760,000
15. Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots-$20,500,000
16. Sam Bradford, QB, Arizona Cardinals-$20,000,000
17. Ryan Tannehill, QB, Miami Dolphins-$19,250,000
18. Von Miller, LB, Denver Broncos-$19,083,333
19. Case Keenum, QB, Denver Broncos-$18,000,000
20. Ezekiel Ansah, DE, Detroit Lions-$17,521,000
21. Blake Bortles, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars-$17,483,500
22. DeMarcus Lawrence, DE, Dallas Cowboys-$17,143,000
23. Fletcher Cox, DL, Philadelphia Eagles-$17,100,000
24. Olivier Vernon, DE, New York Giants-$17,000,000
24. Antonio Brown, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers-$17,000,000
24. Alex Smith, QB, Washington Redskins-$17,000,000

It's no surprise that it's all quarterbacks until Von Miller checks in at #18. The best quarterbacks deserve to be the highest paid players but this is getting ridiculous. The best quarterbacks deserve to be the highest paid. Not the next quarterback. Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees should top the list. It feels like Matthew Stafford has been the highest paid or close to the highest paid quarterback since he was drafted. He's never even been the best quarterback in his own division. Stafford, Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo, Kirk Cousins, and Matt Ryan have all held the highest-paid title recently and not one can match Brady, Rodgers, or Brees on the field. This "next quarterback" paid thing has to slow or, better yet, end. It's tough to reconcile Joe Flacco making about $5,000,000 more than Fletcher Cox but I can accept quarterbacks getting what they get. I just think that the "next quarterback" and his agent has to realize that they aren't Aaron Rodgers. Actually, the next quarterback is Rodgers. His new contract will set things right until Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota are next.
