Dueling Aircraft

Some clown hired a plane to buzz the New York Jets' Florham Park facility on Wednesday. The plane was towing a "Fire John Idzik" banner. The Jets are in the middle of a frustrating season. A 1-8 season so far. That one win was in week 1 against the still winless Oakland Raiders. The bright side is that half of the eight losses were by one score. The dark side is that they have lost eight straight games. General manager John Idzik is feeling much of the heat for this frustrating. He may be feeling even more hear than head coach Rex Ryan. After all, it was Idzik's name on that banner trailing the plane.

Hiring a plane to fly a banner requesting/demanding the termination of a football team decision-maker is such a waste. A waste of time, money, and energy. With all of the social media available, a person can spread their opinion without even getting off of their ass. A tweet or a post probably catches more eyes than a plane. Social media definitely catches more eyes that might even care about the employment fate of John Idzik. And, it costs a lot less than a plane. Even if the author of the banner is the owner and pilot of the plane, it just seems like such a ridiculous thing to do. The only attention it gets is from people wondering why anyone would do such a thing. It certainly won't be the act that triggers Jets owner Woody Johnson to fire Idzik, or Ryan.

Anyway, there was another aircraft buzzing the Jets' practice yesterday. It also carried a message. "Go Jets." This aircraft was much smaller than the plane that flew on Wednesday. The "Go Jets" aircraft was a remote-controlled toy chopper. It flew over the players, coaches, and media inside the team's practice bubble. Rex Ryan was the one that was delivering this message. The coach has lost a lot of games over the last few seasons but at least he hasn't lost his sense of humor.
