Some Super Bowl Thoughts

Seattle Seahawks 43
Denver Broncos 8

Well, that game really sucked. It brought back memories of Super Bowls from the 1980s and 1990s when only one team showed up for the game.

The safety that opened the game turned out to be an indication of a Broncos team that didn't seem quite ready to play for a championship. I hoped that it was only a little hiccup. It turned out to be a sad sign.

I just hate one-sided Super Bowls. A whole season and playoffs lead up to this game. You'd like to at least see a game that's interesting.

If the Broncos scored on at least half of their attempts into Seahawks territory, this is a competitive game. It's at least a more competitive game. Whenever the Broncos started getting out of their own way they gave the ball right back to the Seahawks.

The game wasn't really all about the Broncos always screwing things up for themselves. The Seahawks defense never really let the Broncos get up after repeatedly being knocked down.

It was already 22-0 at the half but Percy Harvin's 87-yard kick return for a touchdown to open the second half was a dagger.

I thought that the MVP award had to go to a defensive player but I was a little surprised that defensive player was linebacker Malcolm Smith. He did return an interception for a touchdown. Recovered a fumble. That's pretty significant. I just thought that defensive end Cliff Avril had a bigger impact. Or, Kam Chancellor. Hell, the whole defense deserved a little bit of that MVP award.

The Broncos could have really Ryan Clady for that game. They played their entire season without their All-Pro left tackle but they really missed him yesterday. Peyton Manning was never sacked but he never had much time in the pocket.

I can't believe that Pete Carroll has a Super Bowl win. That crazy little elf is sure annoying to watch after a win. He's pretty annoying to watch before a win too.

The pregame stuff would be killing me if the Minnesota Vikings were playing in the Super Bowl. When they were last in the game the pregame stuff was about two hours.

Even though I wasn't worried about the weather it was great to see the weather a mostly non-factor. I was tired of the weather worries as soon as they started. Worrying about the weather for a football game is like worrying about a power outage in a domed stadium. You just have to deal with whatever happens.

If not for their teams playing in the Super Bowl, Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase, Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevel, and Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn might have head coaching gigs right now. Team success brings attention to assistant coaches deserving of head coach jobs but that same team success keeps them being available for interviews.
